4/15/05 — Councilman Begins
In
the monthly meeting of the Velma City Council
held Tuesday evening, a new face appeared on
the town’s board.
Pete
Hall, new Velma trustee, was sworn into office
at the meeting. “We are excited to
have him,” said Town Clerk Deborah
Christian. “I always look forward to
seeing new faces and hearing new ideas from
new members.”
Officials
discussed bids for sale of the town’s
two fire trucks. The first, a 1978 utility
truck, received a bid in the amount of $625
by Clarence Foster, which the town accepted.
The other truck, a 1977 pumper, received no
bids.
Trustee
Monty Tadlock requested Christian to post the
truck for sale on the town’s Web site.
“We
will start the bidding at $1,” Christian
said with a laugh.
Christian
hopes to get the site online in the next two
weeks. “Anthony Foreman of
4M Studios is helping me create the Web site,”
she stated. “Our citizens as well as
other people will be able to not only access
city government information, but also town
information such as community organizations
and the school system. It’s great information
about the town in general, as well as city
ordinances and the cemetery’s database.
Most people don’t want to come to city
hall to check on things. In a few weeks, they
will be able to check information at the convenience
of their home computer.”
Officials
also set May 14 as the date for a rabies clinic.
Countryside Veterinary Clinic makes the shots
available at a reduced price.
City
officials also paid David Allred $350 for his
help in removing the old water line at the
city cemetery. |
