7/29/04 — Cemetery board appointed
By

VELMA
— After taking over responsibilities earlier
this month for the community’s cemeteries,
the Velma town council dealt with appointing
a cemetery board and devising a way to handle
cemeteries’ records at its regular meeting
Tuesday night.
With
three members present, the council appointed
Pete Hall, Barbara Tadlock, Kathy Little and
Joanne Romine to the cemetery board, which
will administer all cemeteries within the township. The
council also approved purchase of a cemetery
software program from 4M Studios for $850.
In
addition, the council approved purchase of
a fireproof filing cabinet for the records
in the clerk’s possession.
At
the next regular meeting, the council will
discuss and consider action to approve an ordinance
creating a position of cemetery director and
establishing a salary for that position.
The
three members present Tuesday also voted to
accept the resignation of council member Terry
McFadden. McFadden is moving outside Velma
town limits and can no longer serve on the
council.
In
old business, Town Clerk Deborah Christian
informed the council that a certificate of
deposit with BancFirst has been canceled and
that Citizens Bank of Velma can offer a better
rate. With that in mind, the council approved
purchase of a $15,000, one-year CD from Citizens
Bank of Velma.
